What is the 3 quote rule?

A long-standing rule for purchasing products or services is to obtain at least 3 quotes from potential suppliers. This 3-quote rule makes sense, but if all you care about is the price, you may end up with a product or service that doesn't meet your needs. The three-quote rule was created to prevent dealers from offering their customers the price they wanted. It predates the pink quotation system, when there was less transparency.

Always capitalize the first word of a full quote, even half of the sentence. The 3-word rule states that (as long as you cite and reference correctly) you can use up to 3 words in a row from a source without entering them in quotation marks.
